Sloop Point House 300th Anniversary
The Pender County Historical Society is sponsoring a tour of the 1736 Sloop Point House in Hampstead on May 9. It was built by the father of several Revolutionary era Patriot leaders, Brigadier General John Ashe, Governor Samuel Ashe. Their sister Rebecca married Continental Brig. General James Moore. The Ashes stoked the flames of revolution, fought in the war, and supplied state leaders for generations.
It is one of the two oldest buildings in North Carolina and this year is the 300th anniversary of the house. It is an incredibly rare opportunity to visit this private home which was last opened to the public in 2007.
