Celebrating Our Nation's 250th Anniversary
February 21-28, 2026
About the NC First in Freedom Festival
The North Carolina First in Freedom Festival is a celebration rooted in the heart of eastern North Carolina — where the seeds of American independence were first sown. Our mission is to celebrate more than 250 years of our Nation’s story and culture viewed through the lens of the rich historical events, people, and places that shaped eastern North Carolina’s contribution to America’s founding ideals.
The Festival embodies the resilience and hospitality of eastern North Carolina, weaving together towns, counties, and historic sites that each played a role in our nation’s story. Together, we highlight the patriotic milestones, cultural legacies, and small-town traditions that continue to define who we are today. From reenactments and educational exhibits to concerts, parades, and family-friendly events, the NC First in Freedom Festival will serve as a living tribute — not just to our past, but to the enduring spirit of freedom that continues to shape our communities.
Discover the heart of Eastern North Carolina across eight remarkable counties—Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Sampson—where centuries of history, heritage, and landmark treasures come together. This richly connected region blends rural traditions with coastal legacy, offering visitors a journey through historic downtowns, Revolutionary-era sites, iconic farms, maritime landscapes, and preserved cultural landmarks. From the rolling countryside to the scenic shoreline, each county adds its own chapter to a shared story, creating a heritage corridor that celebrates the people, places, and moments that shaped North Carolina’s past and continue to inspire its future.
