Eight Counties, One Shared Story: A Region Rooted in North Carolina History

Encompassing Bladen, Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Sampson counties, this 8-county region forms one of the most historically rich and culturally significant corridors in North Carolina. Together, these counties represent centuries of Southern heritage—stretching from Revolutionary-era crossroads and agricultural heartlands to coastal settlements, maritime traditions, and preserved natural landscapes.

The festival's goal is a week long celebration to provide a journey through the lens of eastern North Carolina's significant historical milestones. From the state's early days as a colony to its role in shaping the nation's ideals of freedom and democracy, each aspect will be highlighted through engaging events and activities.

Local historians and historical sites will play a pivotal role in educating and entertaining visitors about key moments in North Carolina's history, such as pivotal battles, important political decisions, and cultural contributions. These insights will deepen the understanding of how North Carolina's legacy intertwines with America's broader narrative.

The North Carolina First in Freedom Festival aims to celebrate the past while embracing the present.
