American Revolution stories of people and places of Pender County (then northern New Hanover County) will be featured in an exhibit. While the Battle of Moores Creek is famous, this exhibit features many other lesser-known stories. The fertile lands of Rocky Point was the residence of many prominent Revolutionary leaders. Stories will be told about members of the Moore, Ashe, Lillington, Swann, Bloodworth, and other families. Free Blacks were also Patriot soldiers, while enslaved Daniel Moore found his liberty with the British. Places of Revolutionary events include the Patriot fort near Rutherford's Mill and Herron's Bridge on the Northeast Cape Fear River. The lovely Sloop Point House, a home of Samuel Ashe, built in 1726 by his father John Baptiste Ashe, still stands on the coast. It’s the 2nd oldest building in the state as it turns 300 years old.
